Bad Girls

Bad Girls
Acrylic, 10" x 10"

I love shoes and actuallly own this pair-although they don't get worn much. But they're gorgeous and outrageous so I just had to paint them. This painting fit right into a recent Daily Paintworks Challenge: Color of the Year which is a deep orangey red. Scroll down a bit to see all the entries. Posting on the Daily Paintworks was a first for me and feels like a step towards achieving my goal.

Another Sunday afternoon

Another relaxing afternoon at the Lake Eola Farmers Market. The weather was ideal for sitting under the oak trees, listening to Joseph Martens, eating good food and people watching.

Drawing Session

Drawing session -I wanted to try a different way to lay in value rather than using the side of a charcoal stick, but not sure this is it. It seems kind of a harsh look.

Boston Sketchbook

Chess Players in Harvard Square. For two dollars, you can play the chess guy.
These games have been going on since I first saw them in 1981.

Playing guitar in Central Square T station. Musicians frequently play on the subway platforms.
I actually wasn't as interested in the musician as I was in the couple standing near him.
The Boston version of a farmer's market is the Haymarket, every Saturday, all day. Fruit, vegetables,
bread, meat, fish, cheese. The meats and cheeses are sold from basement shops on the street.

This is a hurdy gurdy player. Still not sure how it's played, but it was definitely interesting.
This musician (this link will take you to a video of this actual guy playing the hurdy gurdy)
was set up next to the Old State House, his short-legged dog next to him.

The view of downtown Boston from  Greenway Park.

The guy in red was set up in the northwest corner of the Public Garden, very near to the duck
sculpture. Within a half hour, the other two guys showed up and joined in. My knowledge
of classical is limited, but I thought I heard Vivaldi. I know I heard AC/DC.

My daughter absorbing "Watson and the Shark" by John Singleton Copley.
I still remember my first viewing of this painting. It's hard to forget.

Fusion Tacos at Lake Eola Farmers' Market

We love to spend a few hours at the Sunday Lake Eola Farmers' Market. The weather was perfect: warm, dry, and sunny. Joseph Martens performs starting at around noon so people arrive early to get a good seat under the huge oaks. There's a great selection of food and a particular favorite, judging by the amount of business it got, is Fusion Tacos. The tacos come in spicy Korean beef, sweet potato,  and two others that I can't remember. I tried to get the sun dappling the yellow tent and the marbled fabric dressing the serving tables...don't know how successful I was. I think I was too full of tacos, music and sunshine to do much more than this sketch.

Change in the Weather -- Sanibel, December 2011

We spent a day on Sanibel Island between Christmas and New Year's. The weather was capricious: gray and dark, sunny, rainy..but warm, thankfully. Perfect for watching the waves, the shifting clouds, people looking for shells, the occasional dolphin and napping.
